On a slippery slope....

Running clever......trying to stay upright in snow and ice.....
It was jolly hard work running in ice and snow today, trying to stay on my feet without resorting to the use of Yaktrax. After this morning's session I'm aching in muscles that haven't ached for ages, and I only ran four miles, for goodness sake. My usual remedy for this is to dissolve ½ kilo of Mag Sulph in a bath of hot water and soak for an hour while listening to nice music filtering through from my study. Unfortunately, my supply has run out, (Mag Sulph I mean, not music) so must remember to replenish my stores in case these freezing conditions persist. After all, I've gotta keep running if only for the sake of regular readers of my inane jottings.

Speaking of which, of almost 200 independent countries in this big, wide world of ours, people from 110 of them have visited my blog. One can't be sure how many have actually read it, as opposed to
....and dodging those runnels of ice along the lane
having logged in quite by accident, but quite a few must have done because they've been kind enough to leave some very nice comments which are as encouraging to me as I hope some of my ramblings are to them.  Only today someone remarked in her blog "You continue to be an inspiration to me". Well, I'd have her know it's positive comments like hers that inspire me to keep on running and blogging when I don't always feel like it. It works both ways. So thanks to all of you.....

  1. Looking at you running through the snow I wonder what shoes I would be wearing... No wait.. with the last couple of days being in the 30*C range I don't have to worry about snow!
I will leave my snow running to ready about your winter adventures...

    1. Don't know about 'running' in the snow Coach, at times I'd all on to stay upright. People in their 80's tend to get a bit nervous when there's ice about, and I'm no exception... Cheers!

  2. Fantastic to hear that people from so very far and wide have discovered, and no doubt, are being inspired, by your blog. So happy that I found it too!

  3. I love reading your blog, hearing about your runs and seeing your pictures.

Blogging can be so good - you never know who you may meet - what ideas or thoughts may be exchanged.

I only went for a walk today but needed to be well wrapped up against the cold and the wind is going to get cooler still we are told - oh well it is only February.

    Have a good week

    All the best Jan

    1. When I started this blog I never imagined so many people would read it, over 37,000 from 110 different countries. What have I done?
In spite of cold weather (Garmin said 24ºF two days ago) I've mainly run without a jacket, but there's always one in my bumbag in case of windchill. Being cluttered slows me down. I'll be glad when it's warm enough for just shorts and vest again. Or just shorts!
      Cheers Jan...

  4. You are always an inspiration! I ran for the first time in nearly a year last Saturday, despite still walking with a limp! The reason was that you urged me to do so in a comment some months ago... it felt great!

    1. Hi Breandán, great to hear from you again. I'd been wondering what's happened to you over the months. I don't remember urging you to run. I probably said something like "Have you never heard of Ibuprofens?" I keep a huge stock of them, strong ones, because I'm always falling and getting injured. My partner despairs of me!
Sending healing vibes to cure that limp. All the best.....

    1. Your blog has far more variety than mine Lena, but I do my best with diminishing resources.
      Happy running.....

  6. I've been reading your posts for 2 years. I'm kind of facinated by you, sir. You run over tough terrain only marginally slower than I go on the flat and you are older than my mum!

    1. The rough terrain I've run over, even in my mountaineering heyday, is nothing compared to that of Kilian Jornet, Anton Krupicka, Andy Symonds, Emilie Forsberg, Nuria Picas or Anna Frost, a few of my real heroes. Find some videos of them and be REALLY inspired. I'm just an old has been....
      Thanks for dropping by....

  7. Lucky for me we haven't really had any snow down south, and I like it that way! I'm not good at running in snow, but I must admit, your pictures do look scenic.

    1. If it's fresh or frozen snow and you're wearing the right shoes (or Yaktrax), running in it can be quite good fun, something I look forward to every year. But I hate it when it gets slushy and soaks my feet.
